Around 0330 in the morning E18 was assigned on a first alarm response to a brush fire in the shores. As E17 was leaving their station they observed a large column of smoke in the area of the dispatch address. Moments later dispatch came across the radio and updated the call to a possible structure fire. Upon their arrival E17 found a 3500 sq ft. building in a water treatment facility "fully involved".
E18 was assigned to lay in 800' of 4" supply to E17 and L17 for defensive operations. Crews were forced to keep their distance due to an active chlorine leak in the building and utilized ground monitors and the ladder pipe to extinguish the fire. MCFR HazMat responded and was able to secure the leaking chlorine tank. Crews were hampered by unseansonably low temperatures in the low 20's. The building was a total loss, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
